Pilates stated that the "powerhouse" aka "the body" should be braced at around 25% of its maximum. Recent research on back pain and dysfunction has demonstrated the importance of core stability and also state that the ideal level of contraction held during training should be between 20 - 25%. Examination of many of Pilates exercises and the muscles that are stimulated to work has shown that Pilates appreciation and understanding of how to fascilitate strength and control was many years ahead of his time.
Today the Pilates exercise system has evolved and adapted with today's clinical research. It is as popular and more effective than ever and recommended by most health care practitioners.
